A cladistic analysis, based on a taxonomic revision is carried out for 7 Acanthophora species using 19 characters. Hypotheses on species affinities are based primarily on morphological characters. Because most species show only few distinctive characters, emphasis was placed on features of spine development, either in relation to vegetative or to reproductive structures. Global distribution of 7 Acanthophora species: viz. A. aokii, A. dendroides, A. muscoides, A. nayadiformis, A. pacifica, A. ramulosa, and A. spicifera, shows a discontinuous pattern. Although widely distributed species are present (A. muscoides and A. spicifera), a disjunct distribution of other species occurs in the Pacific (A. aokii), Indian Ocean (A. dendroides), East-Atlantic region... |

A list of the multicellular marine algae found along the coast of the Netherlands is given, the first complete update on the “Flora van de Nederlandse Zeewieren” (Stegenga & Mol 1983). The number of recognized species has increased from 267 to 327. Of these, 229 are autochthonous, the remainder is only known from drift material [Chlorophyta: 76 autochthonous + 1 drift; Phaeophyta: 73 + 22; Rhodophyta: 80 + 75]. Additions to the flora appear to originate from neighbouring countries as well as from the North Pacific. One new combination is made: Cotaconema dasyae (Collins) Stegenga, Mol, Prud’homme et Lokhorst, now comb. [Basionym: Acrochaetium dasyae Collins, Rhodora 8: 191 (1906)]. |

A large amount of unidentified material of the Neotropical genus Guatteria (Annonaceae) is lying on herbarium shelves around the world. Here twelve species are described in an attempt to reduce this amount of unidentified material. Next to this, previously unidentified material is now assigned to G. asplundiana, G. microcarpa, G. pastazae, and G. scalarinervia, four previously described but poorly known species, thus providing a clearer circumscription of these species. Furthermore, G. discolor and G. megalophylla appear to have a wider distribution than previously thought. Lastly, G. macrantha, a curious species only known from the type, is excluded from the genus and referred to Uvaria. With the description of twelve new species and the synonymizing of... |
